Worongary is a Gold Coast hinterland suburb with two distinct halves. The north-east is residential estates, while the middle and south open out into rural-residential acreage on blocks of four to five thousand square metres. Newer masterplanned pockets like SkyRidge are still building out detached homes off the M1 at exit 75. The housing here is overwhelmingly 1980s-onward brick-veneer and rendered project homes, with almost no pre-1980 stock, so the electrical work is shaped less by old cloth wiring and more by renovations, ageing switchboards and the loads modern hinterland households put on them.

Because so many of the original 1980s and 90s homes are now being renovated and extended, rewires to bring older circuits up to current standards are one of the busiest jobs in the suburb. On the larger acreage blocks, pools and spas are common, and each needs its own compliant, RCD-protected and bonded circuit rather than being run off an already stretched board. Push a warm afternoon through an under-sized switchboard running ducted aircon and you often see flickering lights, a warm switch, or a safety switch that keeps letting go. Out in the newer SkyRidge homes, more owner-occupiers are asking us to wire a dedicated EV charger with proper load assessment.

The setting matters too. Worongary sits on undulating hinterland terrain with reactive clay soils and creek reserves near streets like Vince Hinde Drive and the parkland around Pioneer Downs Park. It carries one of the lowest flood risks on the Gold Coast, but intense subtropical storms over the hills from December to February are the real local factor, putting sudden load and the occasional surge through the network. Whether you are near Worongary Road, the Town Centre precinct or out on acreage toward Tallai, and whether your power comes through Energex to an older board or a brand-new build, the fix is the same: work done properly, to standard, and left safe and sorted.
